Implant Dentistry

Implant dentistry is a specialized field of dentistry that focuses on the placement and restoration of dental implants.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots typically made of titanium that are surgically placed into the jawbone to provide a stable foundation for replacement teeth. After the healing period, the bone surrounding the implant “integrates” to the implant surface, allowing it to function as a foundation to install a crown, bridge or full arch prosthesis replacing single, multiple, or all teeth. When correctly placed and restored, dental implants enable aesthetic and functional characteristics similar to natural teeth.

When are implants indicated?

  • NIf you have one or more missing teeth
  • NIf you are not satisfied with your dentures
  • NIf you have hopeless or non-restorable teeth that need extraction
  • NIf you have an infected tooth which needs to be extracted

The procedure

Pre-surgical planning:
During this initial consultation, we examine your mouth and review your dental and medical history to decide if you are a suitable candidate for dental implants. A CBCT (3D x-ray) is taken to further assess the bone quality and quantity to plan for future implant placement, prior to the day of surgery.
The implants are placed under local anesthesia and all postoperative care is reviewed with the patient. When indicated, temporary crowns or bridges are placed immediately after surgery, also known as “immediate loading”.
Post-operative appointment:
7 to 10 days after implant surgery, a follow-up appointment is done to assess healing and ensure patient comfort.
Final impression:
After 2-3 months of bone healing period, digital impressions are taken to fabricate the final prosthesis – crown, bridge or full-arch implant supported prosthesis.
Delivery of the final prosthesis
Fitting of final prosthesis is done with any necessary adjustments.
1 to 2 weeks after final delivery.

A long-lasting solution for tooth loss

Dental implants can last for many years or even for life with the correct treatment planning and aftercare. Although dental implants are artificial, they are surrounded by living bone and gum that must be kept clean and hygienic to avoid the risk of infection. They are easy to care for, and single dental implants can be brushed and flossed just like your natural teeth. We will ensure you know how to clean your dental implants thoroughly to keep them strong and free from infection. After you have dental implants, you must see us regularly for check-ups and book dental hygiene appointments so we can clean your implants professionally. It is a simple routine that protects your investment in your smile and allows you to maintain optimal oral health.
